By the numbers:
Only 23 percent of bottles are recycled after use in America.
For every 1 million bottles of water that are manufactured and shipped to consumers, 18.2 tons of carbon dioxide emissions are pumped into the air.
If you choose to get your recommended eight glasses a day from bottled water, you could spend up to $1,400 annually. The same amount of tap water would cost about 49 cents.

Want to save money and help the environment? invest in a reusable water bottle (the indestructible Nalgene bottle is always a favorite) and refill it at drinking fountains around campus. If you hate the taste of Nashville water, keeping a water pitcher with a Brita filter in your dorm room is a cheaper and greener alternative to purchasing bottled water throughout the day.
