In the House of Representatives…

The House was not in session from July 26 to Sept. 6. When representatives left, the last major actions included the passing of H.R.4842, “to implement the United States-Morocco Free Trade Agreement,” and H.R.4600, “to amend section 227 of the Communications Act of 1934 to clarify the prohibition on junk fax transmissions.”

 

In the Senate…

The Senate is not in session from Monday, July 26 to Monday, September 6. When they left, the last major actions included the passing of S.2704, amending the Social Security Act “to provide States with the option to cover certain legal immigrants under the Medicaid and State children’s health insurance programs,” and S.2714, amending sections “to provide for negotiation of fair prices for Medicare prescription drugs.” Upcoming Committee Meetings include Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to examine Bioshield II, which according to FDAnews.com will remove obstacles to the development of medical defenses against bioterror attacks by adding tax incentives, and Armed Services, September 9th, to look at Department of Defense Detention Operations and the investigation at the Abu Ghraib prison.
